What’s The Difference Between The Phone Models?
There are four Iridium Satellite Phone Rental Models. All the Iridium models have the same level of performance. The main differences between the various models are their age and size. The Iridium 9575 is one of the newest and smallest of the Iridium phones. If you are planning to carry your rental phone in a backpack, this model or the 9555 are the best choice.
What About Airtime?
The Iridium 9555 satellite phone rental requires a minimum 50 minute airtime block purchase.Any additional airtime used will be billed after the phone is returned at the standard rate of $1.75/ minute. You may also choose to purchase larger blocks of airtime at a cheaper rate.
Outgoing text messages are billed at 75 cents each.
How Do I Make Calls To The Satellite Phone?
There are two ways to make a call to an Iridium Satellite Phone. The first way is to call the phone directly. The satellite phone number is an international number. The dialing method is therefore 011-8816-xxxx-xxxx. This is a free call to the satellite phone. However, the caller will be billed by their long distance service provider at a rate that is $5 to $7/minute. To avoid this expensive charge, Iridium provides a number in Arizona that you can call. This number will answer and ask the caller to enter the satellite phone number. The call will then be patched through to the satellite phone. This is called two-stage dialing. Two-stage calls are billed to the satellite phone at $1.99/minute.
How Do I Return The Phone?
A return label is purchased at the time of rental. Place this label on the return package and give the package to Fedex. Get a receipt. Phones can only be return shipped from a USA location. Using the supplied return label outside of the USA will result in a lost phone and the customer will be responsible for buying Globalcom a replacement.
